| 05-08-2010 The mineral season is in full swing. Those bucks really need minerals right now. Antler development is gearing up, and will be in full swing very shortly. Only a couple weeks left to get those food plots started. Don't hesitate to contact us about any mineral or food plot questions. We would like to give credit to Marlyn Wiebelhaus, of Wynot, Nebraska. He is a professional Turkey and Bowfishing guide. Marlyn recorded some truly impressive archery results, last season. If you would like any info on guided hunts, you can contact him at guide4u@gpcom.net 03-13-2010' Once again we find ourselves starting an exciting new season. Winter is finally releasing it's grip. Remember everyone it is time to get those mineral sites started, or refreshed. Bucks are already starting to build those antlers, and does are into full gestation. We would like to thank the south metro MDHA chapter. We had a great time at vending at their banquet. 12-28-09' This is it, the end of 2009. We at Buck Island Outfitters want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. We hope your Christmas was merry, and 2010 brings all of you many blessings. Thank you all for your support and we look forward to serving you with our mineral product, trophy wicks, and our new foodplot mixes. 11-17-09' We everyone MN rifle opener is now in the books. Jacque once again showed why she is such an awesome hunter. She brought down a beautiful 8pt. 176 lb. buck on Tuesday. She also took a cull forkhorn, the same night. Devlin our newest member to hit the woods put a great shot on a nice buck, but after 4 hours and a half mile of tracking, dad just couldn't deliver. Rest easy though because he cut his teeth on a nice forkhorn by Little Falls. As for me a passed on a nice 10 pt, hoping Devlin could get a shot. However, I did bring down a basket 8pt. on the second saturday, as he chased a doe. So now all that is left, this weekend is a couple empty doe tags, and our annual close down. We will be sweetening our mineral sites, pulling stands and cameras, and maybe a little end of the season scouting. A special thanks goes out to Chuck Musker, with Whitetail Country Taxidermy and Scents. His doe in estrous and new buck scent, along with our very own Trophy Wicks, brought Jacques 8pt. out of the brush and into the freezer. 9-8-09' This year has certainly flown by. Archery opens in less than two weeks. This is when alot of hunters stop sweetening their mineral sites. This is a huge mistake. Deer will continue to hit your sites, and you have to make sure there is mineral there, when they do come in. Don't forget that Oh! Deer mineral is 100% legal 100% of the time. 8-25-09' We want to thank Pro-Staffer Jeff Bunton and everyone who showed up at the Gander Mt., in Lakeville, this last weekend. They had a great time. 8-2-09' Friday I met with Ron Pierre from Realistic Taxidermy, in St. Francis. Ron is an award winning taxidermist. He is now carrying Oh! Deer mineral and Trophy Wicks. Ron is an accomplished tournament angler and hunter. He knows his stuff. 7-14-09' I hope everyone is having a great summer. We wanted to let everyone know about AVERAGE JOE'S ARCHERY. This is a brand new archery shop in Anoka, MN. Joe Caminati and Mike McManus have opened up a full service archery shop, equipped with an indoor range. These guys run a top notch shop. So if your in the area, give them a look. Their right on main street, in Anoka. Remember those mineral sites are in full swing. Bucks are packing on up to an inch a day of new antler growth. Does and fawns are growing fast. Those deer need those minerals. Buck Island Outfitters will be offering some new products soon so keep your eyes open. 5-12-09' First we would like to thank all of the hunters that we met at the South Metro MDHA meeting. We had a great time talking, deer, minerals, and everything outdoors. Last weekend I put out my spring minerals. I also put out our trail cameras. I also started some foodplot site prep. I started a brand new mineral site, and was also able to find a nice shed. Hopefully we can take the kids up this weekend to check the cameras and do some more scouting. 05-03-2009' Yesterday we were given the chance to give a presentation to the McGregor chapter of MDHA. We would like to thank Ron Klassen, and all of the other members. We talked about minerals, and introduced our new autumn foodplot mix. It was a real hit. We will be adding it to the website soon. 05-01-2009' We have so much to catch up on, so here goes. We would like to thank Kyle Grandstaff, from Whitetail Predator. Two weeks ago Pro Staffer Doug Ahle went to Kyle's families' farm and planted 8 acres. We put in our new foodplot blends. We had a great time, and Kyle, his wonderful wife Jessica and his parents made us feel right at home. They have an awesome operation. Keep your mineral sites sweet and your eyes open for our new foodplot mixes. 04-13-2009' The grip of this long winter final seems to have ended. Those mineral sites need to be freshed and or started right now. This gives your deer the benefits that they need. 03-19-2009' I would like to also let everyone know about a great guy we met by the name of Kyle Grandstaff. Kyle is with Whitetail Predator. He has a great hunting forum. This forum is a great place for the everyday hunter to gain real hunting advise, not from paid celebrities, but from real hunters. Kyle is also on the prostaff for Natural Predator. 03-16-2009' What a weekend. This was our first year doing the MN Deer Classic, and we had a blast. We would like to thank Chuck Musker from Whitetail Country Taxidermy for sharing his booth with. We would also like to thank the pro staff from Natural Predator. Those folks were great and boy do they have a great product. We will be linking to them and giving out a lot more info, in the near future. Once again we had a great time. Remember the snow is either melted or melting. It's time to get those new mineral sites started and the old ones refreshed. Get out there, those deer have had a rough one and need everything you can give them. 03-07-09' Today was our event at the Forest Lake Gander Mt. We had a great time, and met alot of people. We would also like to thank the staff at Gander for their help and support. Don't forget to check out the Buck Island booth, at the Deer Classic. 02-11-09' Well, it looks like most of the cold weather may be behind us now. I know those deer are grateful. It looks like the early snows at Buck Island had the deer in winter mode early this year. I'm glad we were able to put recharge our mineral sites, back in November. The deer are sure going to need it. We are going to start some events this month. We are excited to get back into the swing of things. Come see us. Keep a sharp eye open too. We are going to be rolling out a new and exciting product in the next week or so. 12-20-08' The 08' rifle season, ended on a slow note. I saw alot more wolf tracks than deer tracks. Preparations are already being made for next season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, to all of our great customers. Just to let everyone know that we have started an active blog at buckisland.blogspot.com/ 11-19-08 What a deer season. As some of you know, our hunting and research is done in Northern MN. We hunted hard opening weekend, and came up empty handed. So many hunters, that I talked to, told me that deer sightings were down significantly over years past. It took me until Wednesday to see my first deer. Thursday afternoon, I was able to score on a nice 7 point buck, thanks to the fresh doe scent from Whitetail Country, and Chuck Musker. We have one more weekend left. Pro-staffer Doug Ahle experinced both a high and a low, this season. His 10 year old son Hunter scored with his first deer, a beautiful 1 1/2 year old doe. On a sad note, Doug also found the bodies of a poached 10 point buck, and a doe on his land. It was a very sad discovery. Remember stay safe, stay legal, hunt hard, and refresh those mineral sites. 11-02-08 Things are ready to pop. Those bucks are really starting to scrape. Snow is on the way for the Arrowhead. Remember refresh those sites. Have fun and a good luck to all. Don't forget to let us know how you did. 10-26-08 We are happy to say that rifle season is just about here. We would like to recommend some things for all our friends out there. First off to get your beautiful bucks we all know that you should be using Oh Deer mineral. Now draw them in with deer scents. We recommend using a product from Whitetail Country Taxidermy and Deer Ranch. They are a local company in Minnesota just like us. Chuck Musker is the owner and he collects his scent and bottles it daily. There are huge advantages to using scent that is coming from deer in the same area you are hunting , not to mention the freshest urine. You can buy these scents in some of the Gander Mountain stores at the archery counter, or get them directly from the ranch. Now when you get your scent ,you know that it is fresh within a few days old, not on a shelf. Chuck is also an "award winning taxidermist" His work is top notch. We highly recommend his taxidermy and scents. Chuck also gives private taxidermy lessons. Contact info for Chuck is: Whitetail Country Taxidermy private taxidermy lessons deer scents - deer ranch Chuck Musker award winning taxidermist 763-434-3709 419 237th ave East Bethel, MN 55005 10-20-08 We had a great weekend at our events at some of the Gander Mountain stores. We would like to thank all of the associates, managers, and most of all the customers that made the last couple weekends very enjoyable and memorable. Remember it is never too late or too early to start a new mineral site or to refresh an old site. Deer will continue to hit minerals year a round. It may not be as much, but they do continue to use minerals. 9-30-08 It's that time of the year again. As the nights are getting colder, keep an eye out for those first few does, that are getting closer to estrus. Those mineral sites are still very important. This is the perfect time to recharge those sites for the remainder of fall, and the start of a long winter. Check us out at our upcoming events. We will be giving away free gifts with purchases, on the day of the events. 8-15-08' We at Buck Island are so delighted to inform all of our valued customers that Gander Mt. in Maple Grove now carries Oh! Deer mineral mix. Remember everyone just because summer is winding down don't forget those minerals. Deer may start to decrease their overall use, but they are still around and will still hit them. Keep them fresh and Give em' a Lick. 8-11-08' What a weekend, Friday I had the pleasure to meet one of the managers for the Gander Mt. store in Duluth, Coner and an associate named Chris. They are awesome guys with a passion for Whitetails. We are pleased to announce that you can now find Oh! Deer at the Duluth Gander Mt. Thanks again guys. Friday also found us staying at the most unique motel on the North Shore. Northern Rail Suites. It is a motel made out of actual railroad cars. Mary the manager was great. We set up seven mineral sites on their property. I can't say enough about the staff and the accomodations. If you find yourself driving up the north shore, stop for a bite at Betty's pies, take your next left and then your next right, and you will have a night you and the family will never forget. Thanks again to Mary for a very classy place, and don't forget to look out your window, because you might see one of their local deer enjoying some Oh! Deer. 07-14-08 What a wild few months. Those deer are have really been crushing the sites. On father's day weekend I record 67 hits on the camera in buck meadow. Unfortunately I couldn't pull the SD card at the time. For those of you that are MDHA members, Oh! Deer is now a proud advertiser in their magazine. We are posting some new videos on the links page. Don't forget to read some of the customer feedback on the customer page as well. Send in your pictures and commments to admin@buckisland.net |
